Pakistan’s Jaffar Express Train Derails After Baloch Rebel Bomb in Sindh, 7 Injured

SHIKARPUR, Pakistan — A bomb blast derailed four bogies of the Jaffar Express passenger train in Sindh province on Tuesday, injuring at least seven people. The explosion happened near Sultankot, close to the border with Balochistan, around noon local time.

The train was traveling from Peshawar to Quetta when the device, believed to be an improvised explosive, went off on the tracks. Rescue teams pulled passengers from the wreckage, and all injured were taken to a nearby hospital with minor wounds like cuts and bruises. No deaths were reported.

The Baloch Republican Guards, a separatist group fighting for independence in Balochistan, claimed the attack. They said it targeted Pakistani soldiers on board and aimed to disrupt military movements. Pakistan Railways halted service on the route and sent teams to check the tracks for more threats.

This marks the seventh attack on the Jaffar Express this year. Earlier incidents included explosions in March that led to a hijacking and military raid, plus derailments in June and August. The train route through Balochistan has seen rising violence from rebels who accuse Islamabad of exploiting the region’s resources.

Security forces sealed off the area and started a search for suspects. Local officials blamed “anti-state elements” and promised quick arrests. The bombing adds to tensions in Sindh, where Baloch militants have stepped up operations.

The Jaffar Express carries hundreds of passengers daily, including troops and civilians. Past attacks have killed dozens and forced route changes.
